There’s an old say “Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me”. Most people in this country know something about treaties the US made with Indigenous people and Civil Rights legislation enacted after the Civil War. What those treaties and the various Civil Rights bills have in common is that the US never had any intention of honoring them.

Since 1863 starting with the 13th Amendment ADOS have been fooled at least 20 times. After the 13th amendment came the Civil Rights act of 1866. Then came the 14th and 15th amendments. Then followed by the CivilvRights act of 1870. Then came the Civil Rights act of 1871. Once again in 1875 the nation revisited the question of Civil Rights for black people.

For the next 82 years the nation remained silent on the question of Civil Rights. In 1957 the nation was back at it. Followed by the Civil Rights act of 1960. In 1964 LBJ passed the Civil Righrs Act followed by the 1965 Voting right Act. In 1968 the fair housing Act was passed. In 1970 came the Voting Rights amendments. In 1975 Voting Rights were once again amended then again in 1982. In 1987 came the Civil Rights restoration act. In 1988 the legislative branch added another amendment to the fair housing act. In 1981 another Civil Rights act was enacted. In 2006 the question of Voting Rights was revisited extending the provisions of the voting rights act of 1965 for and additional 25 years.

All of these acts were suppose to fulfill the promise of equal protection under the law. The opperative word is suppose. The truth is that there has never been equal protection under the law. The courts have consistently found holes in the law that have made equal treatment elusive if not impossible. He who makes the law controls the game. All these laws and still we keep chasing the carrot. Thinking about it can make you very angry.

I’m sharing this with you so that you can understand the number of times we have revisited these issues. This is apart of the history they don’t want to teach or want people to know. These are inconvenient truths.

We are at a point now where at least 70 million people in this country have demonstrated that they have no interest in equal treatment. Now the ball is in our yard. Are we ready yet for self determination?
