Since COVID-19 began it’s stranglehold on the US my family has been having a weekly Friday zoom call. We’ve done it to stay up to date with each other and to make sure we’re sharing important information.

Last night during our call we talked about our plan for what a post election America looks like. We began discussing logistics in terms of where we would go if we had to leave the country. This is by no means an easy task since we are spread out from one coast to the other. We talked about Belize and the Dominican Republic and the challenges we’re likely to encounter if we need to make our exit.

We’ve been talking about these things for a while and I had hoped that people were treating this seriously. Now I’ve come to the conclusion that some of us probably won’t make it. They don’t seem to have developed an appreciation for the gravity of the situation. It brings to mind what must have been happening in greenwood before the attack. People just going about their daily lives totally oblivious to the danger awaiting them.

My family is probably no different than hundreds of thousands of families out there who have convinced themselves that they have nothing to fear. I wish I had been more forceful in telling people to get prepared. I know that I can’t save everyone but that doesn’t stop from thinking I could have done more.

There’s a part of me that hopes that November 3rd comes and goes without turmoil breaking out. If only hope were enough. I wish people truly understood what they are dealing with. History repeats itself. Like Germany in 1945 we have a madman at the helm. He too believes in scorched earth and the people will pay the price.

On the weekend prior to the election make sure you fill your cars gas tank. Under no circumstances stood you have less than a half tank of gas for the three weeks following the election. Decide on a family meet up point and map your route for getting there if you need to move rather than sheltering in place. Americas darkest hour is upon us.
