In the United States we are forced to endure death by a thousand cuts. That’s what’s been happening since 1968. Slowly and methodically we have been subjected to a slow steady erosion of all of rights gained with the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

The murder of Laquan McDonald at the hands of former Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke is one of those cuts. After being convicted of second degree murder Van Dyke was released after serving just over 36 months of his 81 month sentence. It’s an insult to black people that many won’t see or understand.

Laquan is DEAD, there will never be a second chance for him or a reprieve for good behavior. It’s apprehensive that at a time when we continue to fight to have Black Lives Matter authorities decide to set Van Dyke free at the beginning of Black History Month. The shortest month of the year and they choose it to set Van Dyke free. You can’t convince me that it was benign. It’s another cut. Like banning books is another cut. Like Holder v. Shelby County is another cut.

Releasing Van Dyke during Black History Month is great big f— y– to the idea that Black Lives Matter.
