Today I read Carol Leonnig’s “Zero Fail” The Rise And Fall Of The Secret Service. I was chilled to the bone because it paints a very dire picture of the organization designated to provide Presidential protection. Obviously it’s a book and the picture it paints may not be a 100% on point. However if it’s even close to current state we are in trouble.
The thing that really got to me was her account about how under Trump the Secret Services was coopted like it had been under Trick Dick Nixon. The politicalization and the raw bias that were introduced into the agency now bring into question the ability of the Secret Service to carryout its primary mission.
If this were an isolated issue it might be easily addressed but there are clear and present signs that this same seed as found it’s way into our other security organizations. The fact that an active duty Marine Corp Officer participated in the insurrection on Jan 6th is alarming. However it raises and even more pressing question. How many more from our military service were there and went unidentified. When you serve the Government you take an oath. When you take part in an attempted insurrection you violate that oath.
We need to be developing a strategy for identifying and removing the insurgents from the ranks of our military and government security service. SOS we’re in trouble and we need to do something about it.
