I make no secret of the fact that I don’t like Donald John Trump. The man is the fake news that he is constantly spewing about. The issue isn’t whether I like Trump or not. The issue is what the Presidency is about. In less than 4 years Trump has created a Presidency that is a reflection of what he is rather tgan what the founders aspired to when creating the Constitution. If we are to have any hope for the future we must be prepared to step back from the legacy of a Trump Presidency. We must be willing to repudiate the hypocrisy of a past built on stealing from America’s indigenous people and enslaving millions of people based on the melanation of their skin.
We have real work in front of us. The person we select to do that work doesn’t have to be perfect but they do need to be committed. They can’t be so consumed with themselves that the need to spend hours in the morning trying to conceal the bald spot that we all know exist. When theg speak about the nation it can’t be about what they’ve personally sacrificed to be the president. The next President needs to love the country and all of her people; warts and all.
If we haven’t learned anything else in the last four years we should have learned that a President who thinks governing is about whats in it for him or creating winners and losers is a non starter. We have had chasms between our people that have prevented America from living up to her potential. Trump rather than attempting to close those chasms as sought to reinforce the divides. That behavior has not only impacted our our country but it has impacted how the rest of the world sees us.
At the beginning of this year America was confronted with the single greatest threat that she as witnessed since the Soanish Flu pandemic of 1918. Covid-19 was the next great pandemic. Recent revelations have shown that Donald John Trump was aware of the threat that it represented. He knew and he told the American people they had nothing to worry about. He knew that we needed to take immediate remedial action to curtail the spread of the disease and he did nothing. He knew that we needed to get a handle on how the disease was transmitted from person to person and he mocked social distancing and wearing masks. As the number of American cases and deaths grew he talked about herd mentality (I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and conceed that he probably mean herd immunity) as the solution.
The culmination of this madness is Donald John Trump finding himself being stricken with the virus that he said was no worse than a mild case of the flu. He and multiple members of his administration are not victims of this virus because they made a mockery of wearing a mask and social distancing.
If the American people reelect Donald John Trump President we are literally throwing caution to the wind. He does not possess the intellectual horsepower to do the job. You can’t shoot from the hip and be an effective President. We need a President that’s not afraid of change. We need a President that wants to move our country forward. We need Biden/Harris.
