Another weekend in America. In New York City a woman calls the police on a black man in Central Park because he requested that she leash her dog. In Minneapolis a black man loses his life in the street with a police officers knee on his neck.
In the New York incident the woman became irate because another person, who happened to be a black male asked her to obey the law. This woman proceeded to call the police and tell them that she was being harassed. Luckily the man involved captured the whole encounter on tape. When the tape went public the woman who had cried wolf extended an apology and said “maybe she took it too far”. Calling the police on a black man in America can have dangerous ramifications. When the caller is a white woman in Central Park the ramifications can be deadly.
In Minneapolis a video was shot of the police officer with his knee on the black mans neck. The man said numerous times that he did not feel well and that he couldn’t breathe. The officer never removed his knee from his neck. By the time rescue services arrived at the scene the man was unresponsive and he was later pronounced dead.
Police officers have a lot of latitude in the streets. They are allowed to use reasonable force in sub doing an offender. They are not permited to summarily execute people in the streets. The victim was executed right in front of witnesses. Now before you start trying to rationalize the irrational unerstand that force is suppose to stops when the subject stops resisting and no longer poses a threat.
Under criminal law you take your victim as you find them. If this man had some underlying physical ailment that does not negate the officers unreasonable use of force which resulted in death.
Blackmen in America are the most Endangered species in the nation. We are dealing with centuries of black life being devalued and yet the beat goes on.
Now if your asking yourself what this as to do with politics it’s simple. Racism is central to the American body of politics. It’s been codified and reinforced throughout American courtrooms since the founding of the nation. We are in a very dark place and I fear that we are destined to see mass violence in the streets. The lines are being drawn, which side will you be standing on???
