Well some of us saw it coming. Maybe Virginia will serve as a wake up call. The days of politics being a popularity contest are over. The people have said loud and clear that they expect you to keep your promise. Being stately won’t be enough to win them over at the polls. The lesson is don’t say it if you can’t do it.
If by some miracle President Biden is able to sleep tonight he needs to wake up with a new resolve. He spent the last ten months trying to do it the old way, it didn’t work. Now it’s time to pivot to a new game plan. Centrist and Conservative Democrats are part of the problem. If there is to be a future for the Democratic party it must be the party of 90% and not the top of the pyramid.
The proposed agenda must now become a five alarm fire for the Democrats. Biden must deal with the Supreme Court. Expanding the court is the only way to save the nation. It’s painfully clear that the filibuster must go. The image of the party as a weak sister must change. Biden must get his domestic agenda done if he hopes to have any relevance on the international stage. There’s work to do and the clock is ticking. Do they have the heart to turn this around?
