History teaches us profound lessons. Turn the clock back to 1932 and we find a Germany mired in an ongoing political crisis. After multiple elections the Germans were still unable to form a working Government. Franz Von Papen convinced Hindenburg that with Von Papen as Vice Chancellor they would be able to control Hitler. They forgot who and what Hitler was. The Democrats are ignoring who Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy are, they are under the misguided belief that they can appease them.
Shortly after Hitler became Chancellor the German Reichstag was destroyed by an arson fire. After the November election the GOP launched the big lie. It didn’t matter that it was a lie. All that mattered was that it was told loud enough and often enough. Then on January 6th the conspirators tried their own American version of the Reichstag Fire. Everyone knows what it was yet far too many continue to tell themselves that they are patriots and it can’t happen here. IT IS HAPPENING AND WE ARE SUFFERING FROM A PARALYSIS OF SELF DELUSION. People don’t care that bad things happen so long as the bad things that happen don’t touch them.
How could this be happening? The great experiment was never real. There was never any such thing as American exceptionalism. There was always American (Supremist) arrogance. We actually bought into the too big to fail myth.
There are bad people in the background pulling the strings. They don’t care about the grand experiment. They care about their own ability to consolidate the wealth of the masses in just a few. They understand that far too many humans have feet of clay. They can be purchased cheaply.
The cross road looms in front of us and soon we will be forced to declare our path. Once we do so there will be no turning back. Are you paying attention yet??

Bill, you said it all when you said, “People don’t care that bad things happen so long as the bad things that happen don’t touch them.” Unfortunately, what they don’t understand is that bad things that happen are like the No Smoking Section in a restaurant. In fact, it was a stupid idea in the first place, but people bought into it because it gave them a false sense of security. But whoever really believed that simply calling a section a No Smoking Section, would prevent the smoke from traveling from the Smoking Section to the No Smoking Section? Likewise, that “bad thing” that people think won’t touch them, eventually does. The 1992 Riots in Los Angeles, after the perpetrators in the Rodney King Beating were acquitted, is a great example. When the Watts Riots back in the 60s occurred, nobody in suburbia gave a damn. However, when the 1992 Riots found their way to the West Chester and all parts north, suddenly even the Hollywood elite were putting out public service announcements calling for calm. Sadly, a lot of bad stuff may have to happen before those who are living a life of contentment and complacency wake up and smell the coffee.
