GOP Senators are a special breed. Without exception everyone of them resisted additional stimulus payments for 2021. Many of those very same Senators are taking credit for the passage of the stimulus bill that they refused to vote for. One might think that this is an anomaly but you would be wrong. This is the pattern and practice of the grand old party.
Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell as gone on record to say that he will devote 100% of his energy to resisting any Biden administration initiative. Those are not the words of someone interested in unity or non-partisan legislation. Its comparable to the way Lucy in the Charlie Brown comic strips moves the football.
When this nation was being formed the founders feared what political parties might ultimately mean for the governing. The modern Republican party highlights what they were afraid of, they aren’t interested in governing in the interest of the people. They are driven by the desire to maintain power and supremacy..
The United States is a young nation. A nation that clings to both its real and imagined legacy. We are at a place in time when we must evolve or we must perish. What is clear is that the GOP cannot be part of the evolution. It is a malignant cancer eating away at the foundation of the nation. The choice is clear. Either we excise it now or allow it to devour us. The cancer of the GOP is not something we can live with.
There will be those that argue that in order to have a democracy we need two political powers. That contention may or not be true. What is absolutely true is that the current ideology of the grand old party is no longer supportive of our form of government. We are presented with a choice, either we rid ourselves of the GOP or we sacrifice the nation.
