Saturday evening less than 72 hours before the polls close. Insurrection is defined as a violent uprising against an authority or government. The Insurrection act of 1807 authorizes the President to use the US military to put down a violent attack or effort to overthrow the government.
This raises two questions that we have never been forced to confront before. The first is the conflict between the Declaration of Independence and the insurrection act itself. The second is to what level does violent resistance have to rise to in order to constitute insurrection?
Under ordinary circumstances these would be purely hypothetical questions. We unfortunately are not living in ordinary circumstances. We have a creature in the White House with no reverence or respect for the Declaration of Independence which undoubtedly he has never read. With that said we have never faced a situation where a President has ever been purched on the pentacle of power so perilously.
What happens if some people take to the streets after the election? What happens if the POTUS inactive the Insurrection Act? Why do we really need to consider these issues. The answer is simple. We have an unstable POTUS in the White House. Not since the civil war has this nation been at this kind of risk.
