People think the Civil War ended in 1865. It didn’t, it just went underground because Americans failed to finish the job.
Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee were never brought to justice for their crimes. None of the war criminals were made to pay for their crimes. After the Presidency of Grant Rutherford B. Hayes failed to keep the promises mad about the freedmen and reconstruction. He traded the direction of the country for the Presidency. It took 12 years but the South rose again with more hate and virulence than before.
Inspite of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment this country as remained in a constant state of Civil War. Now the purveyors of that war are crawling out of their dark places to finish what they started.
What happened in Georgia last night was a minor battle in a much larger war. This time if we ever hope to know peace we must be prepared to fight to the end. The enemy must be routed with no mercy or safe harbor. The disease must be completely eradicated. It won’t be easy because we will be confronted with our own humanity. It is the only chance we have for survival.
The Civil War never ended. It’s time to bring it to a close.
