In America (the US) approximately 13% of the population is black. Yesterday after the verdict was announced in the Chauvin murder trial we watched as people took a victory lap. I had to ask myself what the victory was. Nothing in the US changed because of the Chauvin verdict. The country didn’t magically become Camelot 2.0. There were black deaths last week, there have been black deaths this week and there will be black deaths next week. The Chauvin verdict did not mean all of the ugliness of America had been extinguished.
On the contrary the backlash as already found itself to mainstream media. Today the darling of the white supremacy movement, Tucker Carlson had some choice things to say. He told his audience the Chauvin never had a chance for a fair trial. Never mind that 50% of the jury was Lilly White. According to Tucker they were scared. Let me remind you again that black people only account for 13% of the population and some of those people play for a different team. Carlson went on to say that Black Lives Matter had been responsible for the majority of the violence in the protest from 2020. In reality the fact is that 99% of the Black Lives protest had been peaceful. When you send the message that BLM is the culprit responsible for rioting and looting you aren’t interested in a united people.
The Chauvin verdict is nothing more than a blip on the radar. This fight hasn’t even begun. We have white supremacy hiding in our law enforcement organization and even more frightening our military. Just last week a video of an active duty Army drill instructor harassing and assaulting a young black man appeared on the internet. We watched our own government deploy Gestapo tactics on the West coast last year against citizens who were peacefully protesting. That same Government woefully under performed on January 6th when largely white insurrectionist stormed the capitol.
I implore you not to read too much into the Chauvin verdict. For now it can only be viewed as a Unicorn. The real war for the future of this country is far from over.

Bill, I concur. Read my opinion post on my Facebook page.
You’re right Mr. Cobbs
The war on racial justice hasn’t even started we have a long way to go
And i honestly feel that things not going to get started until police start shooting white people as they do black people
I bet they will start paying attention then because they don’t do nothing until white people speak up raise hell
Black people and people of color is on our own but I can say one good thing that blacks n people of color have seen the power we have from the 2020 election and you see how fast the white people the Republicans jump on changing laws in many states to hinder the votes from blacks n people of color
I am praying that we come together again in the next election SHOW UP AND SHOW OUT
