This country and this state are in real trouble. I wrote a comment about Flint and Midland. In it I said that years later Flunt is still not fixed. I questioned what was going to happen with Midland.
Both of these disasters are rooted in a crumbling infrastructure model. They are not unique. They represent a snapshot of what we can expect to see with ever increasing frequency if we continue down the path of ignoring the problem. See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil just is not a remedy.
Someone read my post and accused me of using code speak to make these two catastrophes about race. He said that because Flint is predominantly black and Midland is predominantly white that comparing the two was showing the seeds of racial discord.
No where in my comment was race ever implied or mentioned. The comment was about INFRASTRUCTURE. We have a statewide problem with infrastructure. Flint was the first major catastrophe, Midland won’t be the last. These incidents are going to occur with ever increasing frequency without any regard for the racial makeup of the community involved.
The fact that someone wanted to make my comment about race says a lot about where we are at this moment in time. The gentleman who responded to my comment with the accusation is caucasian. I’m sure if you asked him he would tell you that he doesn’t have a racist vone in his body. I would take exception to that. He took a completely race neutral comment and made it all about race. I’ve been talking about the need for a plan to address our crumbling infrastructure since 2016.
