What I find amazing is how many Americans don’t know their own history. Independence was not gained from colonial status simply by asking. All of those “Americans” complaining about demonstrations, riots, looting, and burning need a lesson in how this nation was formed.

The Stamp Act of 1765 was famous for the phrase “No taxation without representation”. Today we have a Congress but who does that Congress really work for and represent.

The Townshend Act was enacted in 1767. The act imposed a tax on goods imported from Europe and was viewed by the colonist as an “Abuse of Power”. The disturbances we see rolling across America are being driven by what many see as an abuse of police power directed against black and brown people.

The Boston Massacre in 1770 was occasioned by a confrontation between British Troops and colonial citizens. The troops opened fire and according to historical accounts a black man, Crispus Attucks was among the first to die. Our current disturbances across the country were sparked by the catalyst of George Floyds murder.

The Boston Tea party which occurred in 1773 was a protest by the Sins of Liberty which resulted in a cargo of British tea being dumped into Boston Harbor. This was a destruction of property. In the course of public demonstrations sometimes property is harmed .

The Coercive Acts of 1774 were a series of four laws passed by the English parliament to punish the city of Boston for the losses resulting from the Boston Tea party. All we need do is look around at how DJT has escalated citizen unrest by sending in his personal Gestapo to put down citizen unrest. This could be viewed as a modern day Coercive act.

Lexington and Concord in 1775 marked the beginning of large scale battle between British troops and colonial citizens. From that point on there was no going back. We are fast approaching our own point on no return.

America was formed in the crucible of revolution. Revolution is in her DNA. We have reached an intersection in America’s history. Either we learn to live as one people or face a new revolution. Justice and law and order can not be words of oppression. They must provide for equal and fair protection if the Republic is to survive.
