Is Michigan ready for a 30 to 50% population increase over the next 10 years? NOPE!!! Here’s the thing folks 10 years from now is not that long. We already know that by 2030 the entire planet will be dealing with a global shortage of fresh water. That shortage will make the great lakes basin one of the most attractive places to live in the world.
Michigan doesn’t have a well defined ecological or water plan. Current infrastructure is sub par. What happens if you increase infrastructure use and demand 50% without remediation of existing problems? The successful growth of the region depends on good planning and timely action. We can’t wait until 2025 or later to start to take action. This issue must be one that is discussed and fully articulated in the next Gubernatorial race.
We have much work to do and we don’t have the luxury of decades to accomplish that work.
Imagine a great lakes basin growing more prone to meteotsunomis. What happens to land masses if this were to become a reality. We have work to do. How will massive population growth impact the quality of life without a real plan that anticipates it? We need to get to work now for Michigan’s future.
