Joe Biden was not my first choice. However when he became the candidate I supported him. I had no illusions, I knew that he was a centrist wedded to the status quo. Yesterday when he was asked about his thoughts regarding the verdict in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial he offered a response. His response was that the system worked. I wish I could say I was surprised but I’m not.
That was a safe response for a centrist world. The world is not going to accept the status quo. Joe could have made a fundamental difference yesterday by just saying four simple words. Those words are that “the system is broken”. It would have taken courage but to continue on the path that we are on is sure destruction. Democrats are not paying attention. We haven’t even finished the first year of Biden’s Presidency and both the House and the Senate appear up for grabs. We got lucky in 2020 because it was good enough to not be Trump. We’re past that now. If Democrats want to be more than the party of confusion and disconnect it must be willing to take a stand. It must be the party willing to tell the truth.
Yesterday was not the truth. It was a lie to make some people feel safe. It’s not safe, the sooner we acknowledge that the better off we’ll be. We have a fundamental decision to make about who and what we really want to be. We just can’t be about being anti-Republican. Either we take the chance that people are ready for the truth or we keep marching in lock step to hell with the Republicans.
Joe Biden do better.
