Indulge me, I want to tell you a story and then ask you a question.
Most people dream of owning a home. They save until they can pay for it or get a mortgage. The Day finally comes when your dream of home ownership becomes a reality. You move into your new home and your new life begins. It’s a beautiful home that you can be proud. In fact it might be the most attractive house on the block.
A few years go by and the driveway cracks and needs to be repaired or replaced. You don’t do it because you tell yourself that it’s not that important. A couple of more years go by and you notice that some of the windows are leaking. It gets really cold in the winter. You tell yourself that you only feel it three or four months out of the year and that it’s not that important.
When you purchased your dream house it had several beautiful trees close to the house. Over the years those 🌳 tree’s have grown and the root systems are now pressing against the foundation. You have a Crack in the foundation of the house you saved for and dreamed of having. You tell yourself that the Crack isn’t that bad and that it can wait.
Time certainly does fly, you’ve been in your dream house now for 20 years and you notice that the roof is leaking. You need a new roof. You go outside and take a walk around your house and you notice that your dream house doesn’t look the same. You glance up and down the block and much to your amazement you notice maybe for the first time that your house, the one that was at one time the best looking now seems kind of shabby. Fixing all the problems is going to take a lot of money 💰.
Nobody in their sound mind would let this happen to one of the biggest investments of their life.
Why then are we OK with it happening to our country. Building and maintaining our national infrastructure is a part of our responsibility as a nation. Why would anyone not want to do that? Why on earth would any group of people think it was more important to provide a annual trillion dollar tax break to corporations and the super rich than to take care of the infrastructure we all use?
We have a national infrastructure bill in the Senate right now. Any Senator opposed to it is the definition of a bad neighbor. We need to fix our house. Let them know that you will accept nothing less.
