I’ve lived a long time. Today our nation celebrates another labor day. Labor day is about acknowledging the contributions of the labor movement and working class who have built this nation. This labor day comes at a time like no other in American history. The nation is caught in the middle of a national health pandemic that has struck down over 190,000 American souls and shows no signs of abating.
We have over 30 million Americans out of work who 9 months ago were gainfully employed. We are facing what could be up to 40 million households dealing with housing foreclosures or rental evictions by the end of December of 2020. At a time when ordinary workers are more stressed and stretched than they have been since the great depression we have seen the wealth of the top 5% of Americans increase by greater than 15% since the beginning of the year.
Organized union labor is at an all time low and the President of The United States is bragging about the economy based on stock market growth. Someone must have told him that he needs to speak to the nation because he has a press conference scheduled for 1:00 pm today. I wish I could be optimistic about what he is going to say to the people on the peoples day but I’m not. It won’t be a speech to encourage and uplift. It won’t be a speech calling for bi- partisan support for another round of relief for those that need it the most. It won’t be about thanking the people who built the nation. If it follows character and form it will be about him. Invariably it’s always about him.
We are 57 days away from what will undoubtedly be this nations most important election in history. Our nation is divided like it as never been before. I will be listening to what this POTUS says. I hope you will too.
This is what I know. A zebra doesn’t change its stripes. What we have in DJT is a serial conman/failure. If you’ve never succeeded in anything in your life how can you repair a nation? How Can He Repair A Nation?
