Anyone who refuses to acknowledge the truth is living in a delusional world. The situation that we are facing in America at this moment is rooted in the construct of race.
I can prove it to you if you would like. From 1619 until about 1960 the construct of white people comfortably represented the majority of US population. Ever so slowly the birth and immigration rates of the other racial constructs began to grow while the white construct first remained static and then began to fall.
In the 1990’s a serious discussion began about a demographic shift. That shift meant that there would come a time when the white construct was no longer in the majority. Initially most white people didn’t think about that shift very much because it seemed a long way off. Then things started to happen. Politically the other racial constructs began to more effectively exercise the power of the ballot. At the same time diversity and inclusion slowly began to pry open the door to better employment opportunities. Many of those opportunities had been perceived to be the exclusive province of white people.
Then in 2008 America experienced something that no one had anticipated seeing in the near term. Barack Obama was elected President of the United States. The impact of what a demographic shift could mean really hit home. For far too many people it represented a loss of power and privilege. Heaven forbid that the advantage that had been taken for granted for 380 years was coming to an end.
Why the resistance and fear regarding a shift in Demographics. The answer is simple. It meant that rather than being the gatekeeper of opportunity they were being relegated to the inferior position that they had created for everyone else. Based on history they remembered how non whites had been treated and they could not conceive a world where if the demographics changed they would continue to be treated as equals. The embers of hate were fed fresh fuel and the alt-right doubled down.
The manifestations of this new fear are present in every aspect of life in America. From attacking the legitimacy of non white vote to employment opportunities at higher levels in the corporate world. The pushback is real and driven by a fear that the party is over. They want to Make America Great Again for just them.
This conflict is all about race.
