At the root of this American discontent there is one over arching issue. It is an issue that we created and and issue that haunts everything that we do. In our pursuit of a capitalist society we orchestrated the social construct of race. I’ll say it if no one else has the courage to say it. It’s all about the social construct of race.
When state after state works to implement voting restriction laws that limit access to the polls its all about race.
When 10 months into 2021 we have people in Washingron DC who refuse to deliver comprehensive voting rights protection it’s all about race.
When we are willing to give trillions of dollars in tax breaks to the rich and corporations it’s all about race. The resistance to the human infrastructure bill doesn’t make sense unless you understand that it’s all about race. The people relegated to the lowest rung of society will benefit from a human infrastructure bill. The vast majority of people on that lowest rung of society are black, brown, Asian and indigenous people. It’s all about race.
After World War II the Germans knew that for their country to heal that all symbols representing the horrors of Nazism had to be removed from society. There was a realization that those symbols were an affront to all the people who had suffered because they did not conform to the nationalist view of what a German was. Those symbols were torn down and made illegal to begin the healing. It’s all about race
Conversely after the Civil War we had a brief period of Reconstruction. Followed by a rehabilitation of Confederate beliefs. Today in America we still have segments of our society that celebrate the Confederacy. We have people who fly the confederate battle flag next to the star spangled banner. We celebrate confederate Generals as heroes. America is a confused nation because it’s always about race.
When groups of men March around with Tiki torches screaming that they will not be replaced its all about race. When people plot to overturn an election because they don’t like the result its all about privilege and whose vote should count and whose shouldn’t. It’s all about race.
Jane Elliott is a white woman who for most of her adult life as been engaged in trying to open the eyes of people to the bigotry that is destroying us. She as done extensive work regarding the social construct of race. One of her pieces that resonates with me is a video clip showing her with an audience of white Americans. In that clip she ask the question how many of those people would be content to receive the same kind of treatment that black Americans are subjected to in this country. She ask that those that would be content to stand. No one stands. She says that perhaps they didn’t understand her instructions. Still no one stands. She then says that they clearly know that the treatment is different, that it’s not right but their OK with it for someone else but not for them. This video graphically illustrates that Amwricas root problem is all about the social construct of RACE. if we can’t figure out how to get past this ghost that haunts us we are doomed. We must get beyond the social construct of RACE!

Although the first enslaved people from West/central Africa and south-east Africa in or around 1502 to the Caribbean, Columbus first captured and enslaved indigenous people from the Caribbean and pirated them back to Europe. This began the North Atlantic Slave Trade.
When Bacon’s Rebellion failed in 1676, the social construct of enslavement by ethnicity/skin color was codified by law in what would become the United States of America. From 1492 to 2021, it has always been about race.
The rest they say is history!
