I write commentary almost daily. I end all of my commentaries with the same words. THINK and Eyes Wide πŸ‘€ Open. I do that because even if you disagree with what I’m saying I want you to Think.

Yesterday I wrote a commentary that many interpreted as being critical of President Biden and the Democratic party. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The responses to my commentary got me thinking about our country About 53 years ago things started to change significantly in this country. In April of 1968 we lost Martin Luther King to an assassination. That wS a gut punch for the nation. Two months later Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated after a political event in Los Angeles. That was another gut punch for the nation. Things began to change. Instead of moving forward we began a slowly steady descent in to the nation’s dark and ugly past.

Over the course of my life like countless other Americans I have taken the Oath of Office or allegiance to the nation. The Oath that I swore upon becoming an officer in the USN says this I,William C.Cobbs III do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God. I took a similar Oath as a police officer and for every other position that I have ever held in the public sector.

Those oaths were very specific. Each one referenced the United States Constitution and my obligation to the nation. A careful and thoughtful examination of these oaths in relation to where we find our nation today can be very sobering. Over the last 53 years things have changed. At no point in any of the oaths that I have taken is there any mention of a political party. That’s important because over the last 53 years we have allowed political affiliation to become more important than the welfare of the nation.

It would appears that far too many Americans are confused. They claim the title patriot but work to undermine the welfare of the Republic and its people. I’m not confused. I know what my Oath said and where my allegiance lies. I owe nothing to a political party. My Oath is to the nation.

The capitol of our nation is full of people who have taken an oath and then promptly cast it aside for allegiance to a political party.

I encourage you to review the oaths you have taken and decide whether you are true to that Oath.
