Let’s begin with some basic truths. The Trump trillion dollar tax cut was a boondoggle for the super rich and big business. It wasn’t a one time occurrence, that trillion dollar tax cut goes on year over year. So far the price tag for the Trump tax cut is approximately 3 trillion dollars plus or minus. That’s in less than 3.5 years. The argument that the 3.5 trillion infrastructure bill will encourage an entitlement mentality would be laughable if it weren’t so damn sad.

Whenever we want to do something to benefit the masses we label it as a socialistic incursion. Let’s call a spade a spade. The greedy capitalist want to pick your pockets and convince you that it’s good for you. They’ve forgotten that it’s your money and you should be able to spend it on thinks that improve your quality of life. The trillion dollar tax cut for the boys at the top of the pyramid doesn’t do that. 3.5 trillion dollars in infrastructure investments over 10 years absolutely impacts all of us.

If the infrastructure bill allow us to add 2 million new decent paying jobs we all win. Those people contribute to the national treasury and to local treasures. We all win. The line that this puts pressure on small business owners to pay competitive wages doesn’t resonate with me. If they can’t afford to pay their workers a livable wage maybe just maybe they shouldn’t be in business.

Having said all of that I’m dumbfounded by the poor messaging of the Democrats. This isn’t about socialism versus capitalism. This is about turning government in the direction of humanism. Society improves when we stop working to make just a few of us filthy rich.

This is a battle for the nation’s future. Climate change is a real thing. Ask the people in the Southwest who depend on the Colorado River as a water source. Ask the people in the mid-west about the abnormal rainfall they have experienced this year. Ask the communities that have experienced power outages caused by weather. The battle is real and not addressing it will have dire consequences.

This isn’t a Republican or Democratic issue. This is an issue of humanity. If we can spend over 750 billion dollars annually on defense spending to keep the defense contractors happy. Why are we reluctant to spend 350 billion annually for 10 years to improve the quality of life? Curious minds want to know
