This morning I watched a segment of Morning Joe on MSNBC. In that segment they had Eddie Glaude and Christopher Rufo discussing Critical Race Theory. Eddie Glaude is the James S. McDonnell distinguished professor of African American Studies and the Chair of the Center for African American Studies and the Chair of the Department of African American Studies at Princeton University.

Christopher Rufo is an American conservative activist. Rufo is a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute and contributor to its magazine, City Journal. Formerly, he was a research fellow at the right-wing Discovery Institute.

I’m trying to understand Joe’s motivation for this segment this morning. No one in their right mind could have thought that it would be possible to have a meaningful debate/discussion of such a complicated nuanced issue in a 10 minute segment.

Once again we see “conservatives” trying to equate the teaching of honest true history with teaching Critical Race Theory. It’s bad enough that they don’t know the difference between the 1619 Project and Critical Race Theory. It becomes even worse when you attempt to validate your attack on Critical Race Theory by using a children’s picture book “Not My Idea: A Book About Whitness” to substantiate the attack.

The correlation between Not My Idea and Critical Race Theory is none existent. It merely serves as a red herring to help Mr. Rufo pour gasoline on Critical Race Theory and make it Americas latest boogeyman for anxious white people.

What every American should be interested in is a truthful telling of our history. No one should expect that telling to be comfortable or soothing.
