Down With The GOP!

I unabashedly attack the GOP because they’ve earned it. When Donald Trump came down the escalator at Trump Tower to announce that he would be a candidate for President he made some very incendiary remarks. Those remarks were clearly racist and race baiting. The GOP could have shut him down right then but it didn’t. Instead they wanted to see how it would play out.

When Trump insulted the pow status of John McCain the GOP could have shut him down but it didn’t. Instead they allowed him to remain under the banner of the party because Trump created media interest. Someone inside the GOP truly believed that there is no such thing as bad press.

The GOP came to the realization of who the base of their party really was. It was the not so undercover racist who blamed all of the countries flaws on the “thems”. It was the armchair warriors who believed it was their mission to take their country back. It was every knuckle dragged who bought into the notion that white supremacy had made the US the most powerful nation in the world.

The GOP was willing to feed a cancer to maintain control. They were willing to foment hate for all of the “thems” that did not fit the mold.

There as been much hand wringing about how you should deal with these people. An attempt to build bridges and find common ground is usually the message that people are sent. I’m always amazed and perplexed at the naivete of that proposition. Have we not learned anything from our history? How do you build bridges with people who have no desire to find compromise. How do you find common ground with a party machine that openly says that 100% of their efforts will be devoted to resisting the current administration’s direction for the country. YOU CAN’T, IT’S IMPOSSIBLE.

I can’t even recognize them anymore as the GOP. For me they will forever be the party that promoted an insurrection on January 6th, 2021. The fact that the attempt at insurrection did not succeed should offer no comfort. They will not stop and whether we like it or not it really is us versus them. The polarity that allowed two parties to coexist is forever destroyed. It’s time for the Grand Old Party to go the way of the Dodo bird.
