I woke up this morning and I found myself asking when are my fellow Americans going to get it? What we experienced over the last few years was not a temporary aberration. It was a fundamental shift in the nation’s moral compass. Things won’t be returning back to what we want to define as normal.
We were never as good as we pretended to be and now we have uncontrovertible evidence to prove it. People attempted to sack the capitol on January 6th and a segment of our elected Senators are effectively telling us there’s nothing to see and nothing to investigate.
For my entire lifetime I can’t ever remember a time where a former President refused to graciously fade into the background so that his successor could get on with the business of governing. 45 not only refuses to fade to black, he is doubling down saying he will be back in office by August. Let’s be clear. The only way to remove a sitting President is through the impeachment process or the 25th amendment. Removal or an attempt to remove a sitting President by any other means would constitute an act of sedition. The comments of 45 and some of his supporters could arguable be deemed seditious speech. Seditious speech can be a basis for charges when it is delivered with the intent to incite violent attack on the Government. The comments of General Flynn for example could represent seditious speech.
What makes all of this uniquely curious is the lack of public clamor towards the bad actors. Is it because we don’t believe it can really happen or does it reveal an underlying malaise that as gripped the American psyche? Do we still have the will to fight back??
