I’ve read countless number of comments today regarding people not understanding the black rage from events in Washington. At various times I’ve felt different emotions. I’ve laughed, grown angry, experienced profound sadness, and finally been forced to ask myself if the golf can ever truly be bridged.
In the year of a national pandemic when black and brown people were forced to take to the street equal justice was the mantra. We’re tired of not knowing whether our children will die at the hands of some ill equipped over aggressive police officer. Watching the routing of Washington DC by a crowd of terrorist mostly made up of aggrieved angry white men and women brought the disparity in treatment into stark relief.
We watched a man who had given himself the law and order cloak call for insurrection. The same man who unleashed the full wrath of federal law enforcement against BLM and the phantom Antifa launched an attack on the nations Capitol. That was bad but what was worse was the response of the law enforcement community to this largely homogeneous white group. There were no Robert bullets indiscriminately fired into the crowd. There were few if any arrest for breaching the capitol building. I actually saw a news video of a police officer taking a selfish with one of the capitol building marauders.
Black and brown people are tired being vilified for protesting in order to be heard and seen as human beings. We’re tired of having to explain that the disparate treatment results in both physical and psychological harm to individuals and the community.
Yesterday white privilege was on full display. Strvie wonder could have seen it. Yesterday changed the game for everyone.
No one should be shocked or surprised by the reaction of black and brown people. In this last Presidential election an effort was made to disenfranchise communities of black citizens because they didn’t vote for Trump. That attack on black voting is a threat to further reduce the standing of black people in America. If it happened once it can happen again. We are awake and our eyes are wide open. We see who stands with us and who stands against us. We will no longer be satisfied with waiting.
Think!!
Eyes Wide Open!!!
