I didn’t comment on yesterday’s appearance of the Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and the the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff General Mark Milley. I needed to spend some time thinking about the assault launched on the US military establishment in general and specifically its flag leadership.
I served in the United States Navy as both an enlisted man and later as an officer. I know the importance of military discipline and what happens when enlisted personnel lose confidence in flag leadership. What Congressman Matt Gaetz did yesterday was an intentional effort to bring into question the leadership of the military establishment.
Each time I decide that there is nothing else that can surprise me they deliver another body blow. What Gaetz did yesterday was performance art 🎨. The sole purpose was not to raise a legitimate concern but to plant the seeds of descent within the ranks.
People don’t seem to understand the gravity of the situation. We have never faced the destruction of the Republic like this before. In this country the most trusted part of our government structure are our military forces. Planting the seeds of mistrust can’t have a positive outcome.
In 17 months we have mid-term elections. If you’ve paid attention you’ve heard Mitch McConnell say that he intends to devote 100 percent of his effort to thwarting President Bidens agenda. If you haven’t figure out why allow me to present to you my hypothesis. The Republicans want to retake the House and the Senate. If they do so America is effectively finished.
If the Republicans retake the House and the Senate they will have unlimited power. Unlimited power will give them the opportunity to complete the strangle hold on Democracy. They will not hesitate to do so.
Think back to Germany in March of 1933. The Enabling Act was passed. It removed law making from the Parliament and placed the power into Hitler and his cabinet. If you still fail to see the connection I will explain.
If the Republicans were to regain control of the House and the Senate they would be in a position to pass the equivalent of an enabling act. They could circumvent the Constitution and place all of the power in the hands of a strongman. If you doubt that it could happen you haven’t been paying attention. They don’t care about Democratic principles, they care about consolidating power.
If they can compromise military discipline the road to a fascist autocratic regime is paved. January 6th was just a dress rehearsal. It was to determine whether the country had the stomach to fight back. The failure to get the Republicans in the Senate to agree on a investigative commission should have been a wake up call to everyone across the nation. They didn’t agree because some of them were active conspirators. For them it’d not about preserving the nation. Its about owning and shaping the nation to fit their own design. Tell me I’m wrong.
